I’m off today for my 20 year high school reunion. I went to a boarding high school so it’s a little different than the type of reunion that my wife went to a few years ago. They showed up for dinner together at a restaurant and then hit a couple of the local bars as a group. My reunion will be a weekend event with people showing up this evening to talk, meet the next day for lunch and dinner later that night! The school I attended is small, my graduating class was only about 65 people but I suspect we’ll have 40 of the class show up with spouses (and some kids) in tow.Â
It’s been 10-15 years since I saw a lot of these people and even though I’ve never been that much of a school/class spirit kind of person I find I’m looking forward to seeing how everyone is doing. My big hope is that I will have more hair and less stomach than at least half of the group. That’s how I rate success at this type of event. Having a much better looking spouse than the “popular” guys won’t hurt my feelings either. (Ha - I’ve passed the day where I could fool myself I was “good looking” - now I’m just trying to look younger and/or better than the group that’s my age.) Shallow and sad? Probably, but it will offer some amusement this weekend.
