“We may not always get what we want, we may not get what we need, just so long as we don’t get what we deserve.”
That quote (from the movie True Colors starring John Cusack and James Spader) has always amused me. A friend of mine and I used to quote it to each other when one or the other was frustrated about not having something we felt we “had to have” and it usually brought a grin and bit of a reality check. Yesterday was my birthday and not only did I not get what I deserve I got something I truly don’t deserve - a Canon 40D.

“I stopped drinking, cause I drink too much. Plus, I’m 40 and I have gray hair. You’re 40, you have gray hair, you drink too much…you’re no longer a WILD MAN…you’re a DRUNK!”
“Young people drink cause they think life is AWESOME! Older people drink cause they know…IT’s NOT! And because we hate young people!”

The media has been buzzing over the weekend about the potential hostile takeover of Yahoo by Microsoft for something in the neighborhood of 44 billion dollars. While people hash over the pluses and minuses of such a deal what I found worth noting was a sentence tucked away in this recap of the situation.
“Indeed, Google and Yahoo have already begun hammering out a partnership that would not only outsource Yahoo’s search, but would have the companies work together in other key areas that could strengthen both their hands.”

January 24th, 2008 — Rants
I’ve been planning on writing a rant on Wired magazine (and magazines in general) for as long as I’ve had this blog but I always put it off until now. Tonight as I looked at my subscribed February issue I began muttering to my wife (again) about how pissed off I get when I read Wired. I get hacked off because their subscription cards make it difficult to flip through the pages of the magazine, or worse, falling out on the floor when I carry the magazine somewhere. The wife finds my seeething passion for such things slightly manic and I can’t really argue with her but…I still loathe those sub cards with all my heart.

In response to a couple of commenters on my David Caruso post I am following up with a picture of my wife and I from the same conference. This picture was taken at the GHOSTBAR at the top of the Palms hotel and casino. This is later the same night we met Mr. Caruso, the conference was over and we were relaxing with people we had met earlier in the week.
So scottb and Sue here’s the picture I promised.

You can say just about whatever you want to me but these days you have to follow it up with the title “coach”. I’ve been wrangled into coaching my son’s 3rd and 4th grade co-ed indoor soccer team and while I’ve assisted with past teams this is my first time being “the man”. Continue reading →

On the final day of sessions at PubCon Las Vegas 2007 David Caruso (star of CSI Miami) dropped by to look around the expo area and the Las Vegas Convention Center in general. He and partner Nils Lar were about to announce a new technology company at CES (Lexicon Digital Communications which he talks about with CNET’s Kara Tsuboi here) and wanted to see what the location was like. I got a chance to speak to both Mr. Caruso and Mr. Lar for a moment but they were very vague about their plans just as they were later in the CNET video report. Continue reading →
